2012 SEASON RECAP

Kills at Snipe Creek are always posted by the year killed. Snipe Creek is the only Kentucky outfitter that shows kills on an annually documented basis. All other Kentucky whitetail outfitters combine multiple year kills into one section (no doubt for a reason), making it very vague as to how successful their hunt program really is. At Snipe you will always see the results year by year---THAT'S IMPORTANT!

Hunters experienced a great year at Snipe in 2012. It was very common on good movement days for individual hunters to see as many as 10 to 15 different/unique bucks in a single day. (YES 10 TO 15 IN ONE DAY) Multiple hunters reported witnessing mature bucks fighting each other to the ground. Hunters often reported 3 TO 7 bucks following and chasing the same estrous doe. It was routine for hunters to see mature deer that were bigger then any that they had ever seen in their hunting careers.

Misses....Well, gotta note the misses. Its really heart breaking how many quality mature bucks are missed at Snipe Creek every gun rut season.....2012 saw an even higher rate of misses then normal. I have documented the misses over the years and on average it will run 2 misses per 1 buck that hits the ground. The 2012 season was closer to 3 misses made for each buck killed. That's a bit hard to grasp, but very true. These big bodied and racked matures will overwhelm you very quickly. Thank goodness a hunter did hit the 185---but a hunter did miss at 40 yrds a 200 inch whitetail.

Weather ......Snipe was staged to harvest 2 times the kills for 2012, until a stretch of 65 - 70 degree temps arrived which lasted 8 days during the last half of the season. The temps were just too hot and lasted too many consecutive days. The sustained 8 days of hot temperatures really put the deer onto the cold ground and into narrow movement ranges or as biologists would say "held up in loafing zones". The hot temps put no pressure on deer to feed to stay warm and hunters were cheated out of some great whitetail movement. The good news to this is that, by golly those deer will be bigger in 2013 and we will get even with some of them!
